First Flight England to Australia November 10, 1919 - January 26, 1920, Capt. Sir Ross Smith together with his crew Lt. Keith M. Smith (brother) and Sergts. W.H. Shiers and J.M. Bennett flew from London to Port Darwin, thus flying 11,500 miles in 29 days; the Australian Government issued a special stamp which, by order of the Post Office Dept., was affixed to the mail at Melbourne and cancelled "First Aerial Mail, Great Britain to Australia. Received 26 Feb. 1920", whereas the cover shows some faults, the stamp is in adequate condition, only 130 covers of this very important intercontinental flight were carried, certified Bolaffi

NEWFOUNDLAND, First Transatlantic Air Mail Attempt, Flight effected on May 18, 1919 by Harry Hawker and Maj. MacKenzie Grieve in a Sopwith plane from St. Johns to Ireland. After flying about 1100 miles they were forced down in the sea near a Danish tramp steamer "Mary" whose crew rescued them. Cover with 3 Ct. "Caribou" stamp overprinted "FIRST TRANS ATLANTIC AIR POST April, 1919" cancelled St. Johns April 12, backstamped London May 30, 1919 on official UK post label "found open (or torn) and officially secured"; a great rarity of pioneer airmail, cover with minor faults, stamp in superb condition, Bolaffi certificate, additionally signed Diena (SG 142)

NEWFOUNDLAND, second Transatlantic Air Mail Attempt, Flight effected by Capts. Raynham and Morgan in a Martinsyde plane crashed on May 18 at take off; cover (one of 25) with handwritten Aerial Atlantic Mail J.A.R. on a 3 Ct. Caribou stamp cancelled St. John's 04-19, while the first three lines were written by W. C. Campbell, secretary at the Post Office, the initials J.A.R. were written by Dr. J.A. Robinson, Postmaster General in order to authorize the airmail-stamp; the mail was then held for further transatlantic flight attempts and finally a mail bag was shipped to London and the covers were backstamped London January 7, 1920; a great rarity of pioneer airmail in superb condition, Bolaffi certificate (SG 142a). 6
